Shopping for coats when you’re petite can be a challenge. The sleeves are always too long, the shoulders don’t sit right, or the length just feels overwhelming. I found three coats that work really well on a petite frame and are perfect for fall and winter. This is just the start of petite coats for the season, so stayed tuned for more petite options in future posts.

Petite-Friendly Coats for Fall and Winter

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Quince Featherless Quilted Puffer Coat

I’m wearing this puffer in XS in Redwood Brown, and the color is such a pretty, muted fall shade. The fit is a little roomy, so if you want it more fitted, you could size down. The sleeves aren’t perfectly petite-friendly, but they’re easy to cuff under, and it looks like they were meant to be that way.

It’s $100 and such a good lightweight option for fall. It’ll even take you through a mild winter. I throw it on with jeans, boots, or even leggings and sneakers—it’s just one of those easy coats you’ll grab all the time.

Banana Republic Factory Classic Coat

This coat is such a go-to. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS in Afternoon Latte, and the proportions are spot on—the sleeves, shoulders, and body all fit like they should. It’s true to size, with just enough room to layer a chunky sweater.

It’s thick, warm, and super versatile. I’ve worn it casually with leggings and Uggs, but it also dresses up really nicely with jeans, a sweater, or even over a dress with boots. It’s under $150, which is amazing for a coat that you can wear year after year.

Abercrombie Carrie Wool Trench Coat

If you want a full-length coat, this one is a good pick. I’m in Petite XXS, and while it’s a little long on me, the fit through the shoulders and body keeps it from feeling like too much. If you like that modern, almost-floor-length look, this is a great option.

The dark brown is gorgeous for fall, but it also comes in herringbone and black. It’s warm, heavy, and definitely a winter-ready coat. It feels polished but still cozy—perfect for when you want to be bundled up but put together.

All three of these coats check different boxes—whether you need something lightweight, a classic everyday coat, or a dramatic long option. Being petite doesn’t mean you have to settle for coats that don’t fit—you just have to find the right ones.
