From casual dresses for Thanksgiving and fall family photos to comfortable everyday styles and dressier options for holiday parties and winter weddings, I’m sharing 12 petite-friendly dresses for a wide range of occasions. This roundup includes a mix of sweater dresses, stretchy jersey styles, and formal dresses, all shown unaltered on me at 4’10”.

I’ve divided the dresses into three categories: casual dresses that pair beautifully with knee-high boots, everyday dresses that work for the office or church, and formal to semi-formal options for special occasions.

Affiliate links are included in this post. Items marked c/o were kindly gifted to me.

For sizing reference, I’m 4’10” and typically wear Petite XXS/00. I’ll share how each dress fits, along with any areas where I found the proportions to be a little off on my petite frame.

Casual Fall Dresses to Wear With Knee-High Boots

The first four dresses are styles I think pair beautifully with knee-high boots. They’re great options for Thanksgiving, fall family photos, or any casual gathering during the cooler months. This group includes a mix of shorter dresses and longer styles that can be worn with boots for extra warmth.

Caslon Tiered Dress

The first dress is a tiered style from Caslon at Nordstrom. Although this dress comes in standard sizing rather than petite, I found it to be well proportioned for my 4’10” frame.

It has a smocked top with a V-neckline in both the front and back, a tiered skirt that’s fully lined, and pockets. The long sleeves have stretch at the wrists, which helps with the overall fit.

I’m wearing my true size, XXS, and while the length and overall proportions work well for me, it’s a little snug at the waist and across the top tier of the skirt. If you’re between sizes, I recommend going up a size.

Anthropologie Velvet Somerset Dress

The Somerset Dress from Anthropologie is one of those styles that works for several different occasions. This velvet version is especially pretty for fall and the holiday season.

I’m wearing the dress in Petite XXS and find it to be true to size. In petite sizing, the hem comes just to the top of my feet. It’s a beautiful option with heels, but I also love the way it looks with knee-high boots for a little extra warmth.

The dress has a comfortable smocked waist with stretch, pockets on the skirt, and a V-neckline with a small clasp at the chest to help keep it closed.

Anthropologie Wool-Blend Sweater Dress

This wool-blend sweater dress from Anthropologie is a great option for cooler weather. I love the flared shape through the skirt and the sleeves, which gives it a little something extra compared to a basic sweater dress.

It has a mock neckline with a zipper closure at the back. The wool-blend fabric makes it a warmer option that pairs beautifully with knee-high boots.

Although this dress comes in petite sizing, I’m wearing the standard fit in XXS. Even in standard sizing, I find the length to be plenty short on my frame. The sleeves are a touch long, but still work well overall.

I would consider this dress true to size.

Anthropologie Thea Dress

The Thea Dress from Anthropologie is a mixed-media style with a knit top and a silky, swingy skirt. I love this combination because it gives you the look of a sweater and skirt without having to put together two separate pieces.

This dress comes in petite sizing, but I chose the standard length for a little extra coverage. In standard sizing, I find the overall length and fit work well for me.

The sleeves are slightly long, so I’m wearing them cuffed under. Otherwise, I think the proportions are great on my petite frame.

This is another dress that looks beautiful with knee-high boots for Thanksgiving or a casual holiday gathering.

Everyday Petite Dresses for Work, Church, and Casual Gatherings

The next four dresses are all from Boden. If you’re familiar with Boden, you know the brand does beautiful prints and rich colors. Three of the four dresses I’m sharing are soft, stretchy jersey styles, making them especially comfortable for everyday wear.

These are dresses I would wear to work, church, or a casual holiday gathering. They’re polished enough to dress up with heels or boots, but comfortable enough to wear all day.

One thing to keep in mind with Boden sizing is that the smallest petite size is Petite 0. I’m typically a Petite 00, so these dresses have a little extra room on me. I wouldn’t necessarily consider them to run large, but it’s something to keep in mind when comparing the fit on my frame.

Boden Eli Jersey Dress

The Eli Dress is a comfortable jersey style with plenty of stretch. I love the vibrant fall print, which makes it a great option for the season.

The dress has pockets on the skirt, a fabric belt to define the waist, and functional buttons at the chest. The stretchy fabric makes it comfortable for a full day at work or a casual gathering.

I’m wearing Petite 0, and there’s a little extra room on me since I’m typically a Petite 00. Overall, I would consider the dress true to size.

Boden Tie-Waist Ponte Dress

This tie-waist ponte dress is another comfortable option from Boden. Compared to the Eli Dress, the fabric is a little thicker and more substantial, but it still has that soft, stretchy feel.

It has a full skirt with pockets, a tie detail at the front, and long sleeves that are well proportioned for petites.

The one thing I would note is the V-neckline. It’s a little lower than I personally prefer, so I’m wearing it pinned closed for more coverage.

Otherwise, I find the dress to be true to size and a great option for work or church.

Boden Louise Midi Dress

The Louise Midi Dress is a navy and white polka-dot style with a slightly more structured fit than the jersey dresses above.

It’s made from a cotton-blend fabric with a comfortable amount of stretch. The dress has long sleeves with subtle puff details at the shoulders, a button-front closure, a fabric belt, and pockets on the skirt.

I especially love the sleeve proportions on this dress. They’re a great length for my petite frame without needing to be cuffed.

The dress is unlined, but I don’t find it to be sheer. It’s a polished option that would work beautifully for the office, church, or even a casual holiday gathering.

Boden Naomi Relaxed Jersey Dress

The Naomi Relaxed Jersey Dress is another soft, stretchy option that’s easy to wear throughout the day.

I’m wearing this dress in Petite 0, and the length comes just to my knees. It has a comfortable stretch waist, a V-neckline that isn’t too low cut, subtle puff sleeves, and full-length sleeves that fit my petite frame well.

This dress comes in several colors, including solid options, but I especially love this print for fall.

It’s an easy dress to pair with flats or boots and would make a great everyday option for work or church.

Petite-Friendly Dresses for Winter Weddings and Holiday Parties

The last four dresses are a mix of formal and semi-formal options for winter weddings, Christmas parties, and other special occasions.

I’m sharing two longer dresses and two shorter, cocktail-length styles. Three of the four dresses are from Tuckernuck, which doesn’t offer petite sizing, but I’ve found that some of their styles can still work well on my frame.

I’ll point out the areas where the fit isn’t quite perfect so you can decide which styles may work best for you.

Tuckernuck Suzanne Dress

The Suzanne Dress from Hyacinth House at Tuckernuck is a beautiful sweater-knit dress with a lace skirt. I love the contrast between the knit fabric and delicate lace, which makes it a pretty option for a winter wedding or holiday party.

I’m wearing XXS and would consider the dress true to size. It has a close, fitted shape through the body, so this is one I would personally wear with shapewear shorts underneath for a smoother fit.

The lace comes to about the middle of my thighs, and the dress fits well at the shoulders. The sleeves are a touch long, so I’m wearing them cuffed under.

Overall, I think this is a beautiful option if you’re looking for something dressy that still feels appropriate for cooler weather.

Tuckernuck Megan Dress

The Megan Dress from Tuckernuck is a great option for a holiday party. The ivory jacquard fabric has a subtle shine that pairs beautifully with gold accessories.

The dress has a polished stand collar, three-quarter-length sleeves, a button closure at the chest, and a pleat detail at the back. It has an A-line shape with a structured look, but the fabric is still soft and comfortable to wear.

On my 4’10” frame, the dress comes just to the top of my knees. I’m wearing XXS, and I find it to be a little roomy through the body. If you’re able to size down and prefer a closer fit, I would consider doing that.

For styling, I picked up on the subtle gold tones in the fabric with gold heels, a champagne clutch, and gold earrings.

ASTR Velvet Dress

If you have a formal winter wedding or holiday party coming up, this velvet dress from ASTR is a beautiful option.

I’m wearing it in navy blue, but it also comes in other colors, including a gorgeous burgundy. The dress has an off-the-shoulder neckline, draping and ruching across the chest and bodice, and a slit at the bottom.

I’m wearing XS and find the dress to fit me well. The fabric has a little stretch, making it comfortable to wear despite the close fit. I would personally pair it with shapewear shorts for a smooth finish. My favorite option is the Spanx Power Shorts.

The length comes just to my feet on my 4’10” frame, and the slit helps give the skirt some movement. Because of the off-the-shoulder neckline, this is a dress that works best with a strapless bra.

I especially love the ruching through the bodice because it gives the fitted shape a little more forgiveness.

Tuckernuck Hewitt Turtleneck Dress

The Hewitt Turtleneck Dress from Tuckernuck is a great option for a holiday party when you want to look dressed up but also stay warm.

This dress is made from 100% merino wool and has an excellent fit on my petite frame. I’m wearing XXS and find it to fit well through the shoulders, hips, and overall length.

It has short sleeves with subtle puff details and a turtleneck that can be worn folded over or tucked in. I’m wearing the neckline tucked in here.

The dress comes in several colors, but I love the classic black because it’s so versatile.

For extra warmth, you could pair it with tights or add a cashmere triangle scarf over your shoulders. I styled it with one of Tuckernuck’s 100% cashmere scarves, which adds warmth without a lot of bulk.

You can tie the scarf in front or simply drape it over your shoulders. I personally prefer the draped look.
