When it comes to finding knee-high boots that fit petites, proportions definitely play a role. Shaft height is one of the most important measurements to consider. On average, most petites can wear a pair of boots with a shaft height under 15″, so I’ve focused on options that measure 15″ or less. However, just like inseam lengths vary from one petite woman to another, so do leg proportions. This means a shaft height under 15″ isn’t a guarantee that the boots will fit you perfectly.

Another important measurement is the shaft circumference. I find that boots with a slimmer fit around the calves create a more balanced look on a petite frame. Of course, everyone has different proportions, so I’ve included options with calf circumferences ranging from 11.8″ to 20″.

For reference, I’m 4’10”, wear a size 5 shoe, and have a 12.5″ calf circumference. All of the boot measurements shared in this post are based on a size 5 or 5.5, unless otherwise noted. Keep in mind that shaft height and circumference can increase with shoe size, and I’ll point that out when the brand provides that information.

I also worked to include a range of price points, starting around $100. Finding budget-friendly knee-high boots in a size 5 isn’t always easy, but I also want to recommend boots that are comfortable, well-made, and will last more than one season. With these choices, I focused on finding a good balance of quality, fit, and value.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

How to Wear Knee-High Boots

I often wear knee-high boots with skirts and dresses. They’re one of my favorite ways to continue wearing dresses as the weather cools, and I shared more styling tips in my How to Wear Knee-High Boots With Skirts and Dresses post.

I also wear them the classic way, with skinny jeans and leggings. While I love styling boots with dresses, sometimes you just can’t beat the combination of knee-high boots, leggings, and a cozy sweater. Especially in the winter when it’s cold and wet, it’s a comfortable and practical outfit that I come back to often.

For petites, I recommend paying attention to how closely the boots fit your calves. A slim shaft creates a cleaner line, whether you’re wearing boots with bare legs, tights, leggings, or jeans. I also prefer boots without too much extra bulk or slouching around the ankles.

1. Sam Edelman Wyatt Knee-High Boots — $220

Shaft Height: 14″ at the lowest point, 15″ at the highest point
Calf Circumference: 13″ (size 5)
Heel Height: 2″

The Wyatt Boots from Sam Edelman are a western-inspired style with a beautiful, streamlined fit. I love these boots because they’re slim through the calves without looking bulky or chunky. They have a classic western shape that adds a little interest to an outfit without being overly dramatic.

On my size 5, the shaft has a 13″ circumference, which gives me a close fit around my 12.5″ calves. The shaft height varies because of the western-style opening, measuring 14″ at the lowest point and 15″ at the highest.

I love the color of my pair, but they’re also offered in multiple colors. The slim fit makes them easy to wear with skirts and dresses, and they’re sleek enough to tuck underneath wide-leg jeans as well.

Sam Edelman notes that both the shaft height and circumference increase incrementally with shoe size, so keep that in mind if you wear a larger size.

These boots are also offered in a wide-calf option.

2. Sam Edelman Sylvia Knee-High Boots — $200

Shaft Height: 15″
Calf Circumference: 13″ (size 5)
Fit: Slim calf, also available in wide calf

The Sylvia Boots from Sam Edelman are one of my most-worn pairs of knee-high boots. I purchased them last year and have worn them often with skirts and dresses.

I love the slim fit and higher heel on these boots. They have a sleek, dressy look that works especially well with skirts and dresses. I personally find them comfortable, but you’ll need to be comfortable wearing heels to feel the same way.

On me, the 15″ shaft comes right to the bottom of my knee. Because of the height, the back of the boots can tap against my thighs as I walk. For that reason, I prefer the suede versions. The softer material is more comfortable against my legs, while I find the leather options too stiff.

The shaft circumference is 13″ on my size 5, giving me a close fit around the calves. Sam Edelman notes that the shaft height and circumference increase incrementally as shoe sizes go up.

These boots are also available in wide-calf options.

3. Sarto by Franco Sarto Jasmine Knee-High Boots — $110

Shaft Height: 13.9″ at the lowest point, 15″ at the highest point
Calf Circumference: 14.6″
Heel Height: 3″

The Jasmine Boots from Sarto by Franco Sarto are another western-inspired option that I think offers excellent value, especially at their discounted price at Nordstrom Rack.

They’re similar in style to the Sam Edelman Wyatt Boots, but have a higher 3″ heel compared to the 2″ heel on the Wyatt. They also have a slightly roomier calf circumference of 14.6″.

The shaft has a curved western-style opening, so the height varies depending on where you measure. It measures 13.9″ at the lowest point and reaches 15″ at the highest.

I find these boots to be well-made and comfortable to wear. They have a beautiful shape that works well with skirts and dresses, and the western details are subtle enough to keep them versatile.

At around $110, they’re a great option if you’re looking for a quality knee-high boot at a lower price point.

4. Duo Haltham Petite Knee-High Boots — $340

Shaft Height: 14.2″ in petite
Calf Circumference: Available from 11.8″ to 20″
Fit: True to size, petite shaft option

The Haltham Boots from Duo are one of the best options I’ve found for a truly petite fit. Unlike many knee-high boots that only come in one shaft height and calf width, Duo offers these boots in petite sizing with a 14.2″ shaft height.

What makes these boots stand out is the range of calf circumferences. You can choose from measurements starting at 11.8″ and going all the way up to 20″, giving you a nearly custom fit.

I recommend measuring your calf at its widest point and choosing the next circumference size up for a comfortable fit. The boots are true to size in the foot.

The Haltham is a classic riding boot style that can be worn year after year. I love the simple design because it works with everything from leggings and skinny jeans to skirts and dresses.

At $340, they’re definitely an investment, but the quality and fit make them worth considering. It’s difficult to find boots with this level of sizing flexibility, especially with a shorter shaft designed for petites.

I’ve also seen these boots go on sale recently, which makes them an even better value. If you prefer a heel, Duo offers a heeled option as well.

5. Blondo McKenna Waterproof Knee-High Boots — $240

Shaft Height: 14.25″
Calf Circumference: 14″
Heel Height: 2″
Sizing: Starts at 5.5

The McKenna Boots from Blondo are a great option if you’re looking for a knee-high boot that’s practical for wet weather. They’re waterproof, which makes them especially useful during the fall and winter months.

They have a 14.25″ shaft height and a 14″ calf circumference, giving them petite-friendly proportions.

The one downside for me is that these boots start at a size 5.5. As someone who typically wears a size 5, they’re a little big on me, but I can make them work with thicker socks. If you wear a 5.5 or larger, you won’t have that same sizing issue.

I think these are a great choice if you want a pair of boots that can handle wet weather.

6. J.Crew Factory Sueded Knee-High Boots — $125

Shaft Height: 15″
Calf Circumference: 14″
Material: Faux suede

Boots true to size | Skirt 00 | Top Petite XXS

I wanted to include another option close to the $100 mark and found a good fit with these sueded knee-high boots from J.Crew Factory.

They have a 15″ shaft height and a 14″ calf circumference, making them a petite-friendly option with a little more room through the calves than some of the slimmer boots on this list.

These boots have a similar dressy look to the Sam Edelman Sylvia Boots, making them a good alternative if you like that style but prefer a lower price point.

They’re made from faux suede and are the lowest in quality of the six pairs I’m sharing. However, I still think they’re a good option for the price, especially if you’re looking for a pair of knee-high boots to wear with skirts and dresses without spending $200 or more.

While they may not have the same quality or longevity as some of the more expensive options, they offer a nice balance of fit, style, and affordability.
