What to Wear to a Party: 4 Petite-Friendly Outfits

If you’ve received a party invite and aren’t sure what to wear, I’m sharing four petite-friendly outfit ideas to help. I included a mix of dresses and jumpsuits, with options for everything from a semi-formal party to a dressier evening event. Although it is the holiday season, I chose options that work for any winter occasion, not just a holiday party.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Navy Jumpsuit from Banana Republic Factory

Jumpsuits are incredibly hard to find for petites, but I’ve had some luck at Banana Republic Factory recently. First is a sleeveless option in navy. It’s a crepe style that drapes beautifully and doesn’t wrinkle easily. While I wish it had sleeves, you can easily add a blazer or cropped jacket for extra warmth.

I’m wearing the jumpsuit in Petite XXS, and I find it to be true to size overall. The one thing I would note about the fit is that it’s a little long through the torso on my frame. To make it fit better, I’m using the included fabric belt to pull the top portion up slightly and shorten it through the body.

Satin Maxi Dress from Nordstrom

For a more formal party, this satin maxi dress from Nordstrom would be beautiful. This dress is meant to be a midi length, but on a petite frame, it’s a perfect maxi length. My favorite part is the gorgeous deep red print that makes a statement.

I’m wearing the dress in XXS. It doesn’t come in petite sizing, but it works as a petite-friendly maxi dress on my 4’10” frame. I find it to be true to size, and it’s fully lined.

Petite Fit Notes: I’m wearing standard XXS, and the dress fits true to size. Although it isn’t petite sizing, the length works well as a maxi dress on my 4’10” frame. It’s also fully lined.

Velvet Jumpsuit from Banana Republic Factory

Velvet is a beautiful option in the winter season and Banana Republic Factory delivered with another petite-friendly option.

I’m wearing the jumpsuit in Petite XXS, and I find it to be true to size. The fabric has stretch, making it comfortable to wear and move around in.

Similar to the navy jumpsuit above, this one is a little long through the torso on my frame. I’m wearing it with a belt to pull the top portion up slightly and make it better proportioned for my height.

I also think this jumpsuit benefits from having a little something at the waist. The overall design is simple, so a belt adds a nice finishing detail. I went with a classic belt here, but I think an embellished or crystal belt would be a beautiful option for a party.

Burgundy Midi Dress from Nordstrom

Last is a burgundy midi dress from Nordstrom. I love this rich color for the season, and the style is a beautiful option for a cocktail party. It’s on the casual side, so while you can dress it up, it’s also one you can wear more often.

I’m wearing the dress in XXS, and I find it to be true to size. The fabric has stretch, making it comfortable to wear, and the dress fits me well overall. I also love the cut of this dress, from the ruched midsection to the wrap skirt.
