A good puffer coat is a winter wardrobe essential, and I love finding options that are warm, comfortable, and well proportioned for a petite frame. This season I’m sharing three puffer coat options from Quince that range from warm down coats for the coldest winter days to a lighter quilted option for milder weather.

I’m 4’10” and wearing all three coats in XS. I’ll share how each one fits, including the sleeve and overall length, along with the details that make each coat worth considering.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Quince Responsible Down Cropped Puffer Coat

The Responsible Down Puffer Coat from Quince is made with responsible down insulation and has a temperature rating down to -48°F. It’s incredibly warm, warm made and comes in this cropped version as well as mid, long and cinch.

I’m wearing the cropped coat here in XS and find it to fit me well, including through the sleeves. It hits right at the top of my hips, making it a great length for petites who prefer a shorter jacket. The sleeves have thumb covers for extra warmth and to hold the sleeves in place. It also features an interior pocket, button closure side pockets and a removable cinch hood.

Fit Details:

  • Size Worn: XS
  • Length: Hits at the top of my hips on my 4’10” frame
  • Fit: True to size with room for layers
  • Sleeves: Petite-friendly, no cuffing needed
  • Insulation: Responsible down
  • Temperature Rating: Down to -48°F (brand rating)

Quince Responsible Down Mid-Length Puffer Coat

The Responsible Down Puffer Coat also comes in a mid-length option if you prefer a little more coverage. Both lengths have the same thickness, insulation, and overall warmth, but the mid-length version will keep you warmer simply because it covers more of your body.

On my 4’10” frame, the mid-length coat comes to the bottom of my hips, compared to the cropped version that hits at the top of my hips. Otherwise, the two coats fit the same. I’m wearing XS in both, and the sleeves are a great length without needing to be cuffed.

I think both lengths work well for petites, so it really comes down to your personal preference and how much coverage you want. If you prefer a shorter jacket, the cropped version is a great choice. If you’re looking for the warmest option of the two, I would choose the mid-length for the extra coverage, especially on colder winter days.

Fit Details:

  • Size Worn: XS
  • Length: Hits at the bottom of my hips on my 4’10” frame
  • Fit: True to size with room for layers
  • Sleeves: Petite-friendly, no cuffing needed
  • Insulation: Responsible down
  • Best For: Cold winter weather when you want a little more coverage

Quince Featherless Quilted Hooded Long Puffer Jacket

The Featherless Quilted Hooded Long Puffer Jacket is a great option for mild winter weather or the transition from fall to winter. It’s a medium-weight coat that provides warmth without the bulk of a heavy down puffer.

One of my favorite things about this coat is the fit. I’m wearing it in XS and find it to be true to size, with enough room to layer thick sweaters underneath. The sleeves are also a great length on me. I don’t need to cuff them or push them back, which is always a plus when it comes to finding coats for petites.

This jacket has a button and zipper closure, a removable hood, and corduroy trim at the collar.

Fit Details:

  • Size Worn: XS
  • Fit: True to size, with room for thick sweaters
  • Sleeves: Petite-friendly, no cuffing needed
  • Weight: Medium weight
  • Details: Button and zipper closure, corduroy collar trim, removable hood
  • Best For: Mild winter weather and fall-to-winter transitions

Which Quince Puffer Coat Is Best for You?

All three are great options depending on your climate and how much warmth you’re looking for. The cropped Responsible Down Puffer Coat is a great choice if you prefer a shorter jacket, while the mid-length version offers a little more coverage and warmth with the same comfortable fit. If you live somewhere with milder winters or want a coat for transitional weather, the Featherless Quilted Hooded Long Puffer Jacket is a great choice.
