Every season I love creating a capsule wardrobe to help you build a foundation that works for petites. For casual fall outfits, I’ve pulled together a 26 piece capsule wardrobe built around a color palette of burgundy, navy, tan, and cream.
This capsule includes tops, jackets, bottoms, shoes, and accessories that can be styled into 30+ outfits to get you started (though the combinations are truly endless). Below, you’ll find quick reviews of each piece, along with outfit ideas to help you get the most wear out of every item.
And if you’re a capsule lover—stay tuned! I’ll be sharing my workwear capsule wardrobe next week.

2025 Fall Casual Capsule Wardrobe for Petites

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

It was incredibly challenging to build a capsule this season without something selling out. Unfortunately, some of the pieces may be low in stock, so I will provide alternative options if applicable. I have not tested the fit of all of the alternate choices.
The Tops (10 Pieces)
Layering is key for fall, so I included ten tops that can stand alone early in the season and layer easily as it gets colder:
- Cotton cashmere sweater in berry from Quince: XS | true to size, you could size up if in between sizes | sleeves are a little bit long and need to be cuffed | lightweight (in-stock petite option) | 65% organic cotton, 32% ecovero viscose, 3% cashmere
- Cropped floral top from Anthropologie: Petite XXS | true to size | 100% cotton
- Navy cashmere sweater from Quince: XS | true to size, with a little bit of extra room | sleeves are a little bit long and need to be cuffed | 100% mongolian cashmere
- Striped Polo Top from J.Crew: XXS | true to size, with a slim fit, I could personally go up a size in this and it would still fit well, the sleeves are a little bit long | 57% cotton/39% Modal rayon/4% elastane
- Striped Ruffle Neck Button Down from J.Crew Factory: Petite XXS | true to size, slim tailored fit, may need a size up to accommodate a larger chest | 98% regenagri®-certified cotton/2% elastane
- White Button Down Top from J.Crew Factory: Petite XXS | true to size, slim tailored fit, may need a size up to accommodate a larger chest | white is sheer, wear with a nude bra | 100% cotton
- Duster Cardigan from Amazon: XS | a little oversized with long sleeves, I wear them cuffed | color is “apricort” the first color option on the list, it does not look the same online as it does in person | 50% viscose, 30% nylon, 20% PBT
- Camel Sweater from Quince: XS | oversized and boxy, sleeves are long and are worn cuffed | 100% organic cotton, machine washable
- White Long Sleeve Top from Quince: XS | true to size, not see through, stretchy with a slim fit that’s easy to tuck in | 91% organic cotton, 9% spandex
- Navy Turtleneck from J.Crew: XXS | true to size, slim fit and sheer, a great layering piece but is too sheer to wear alone | 100% cotton
The Jackets & Coats (4 Pieces)
I included four jackets and coats, not because I think you need all four, but I wanted to show some variety. There are two lightweight options and two warm options that will take you through winter:
- Swing barn jacket from Anthropologie: Petite XXS | true to size with great sleeve length, the jacket has a flared out voluminous fit at the bottom | 100% cotton
- Cropped trench coat from Artizia: XXS in marcona beige | generous fit, I have sized down for Aritzia sizing | sleeves are long for petites, but the jacket has buckles you can use to cinch and secure the sleeves | 100% cotton
- Tan coat from Banana Republic Factory: Petite XXS | true to size with enough room to layer | perfect sleeve length and shoulder fit | very warm, will take you through the winter season | 52% polyester, 40% wool, 8% other fibers
- Burgundy cropped coat from J.Crew Factory: Petite XXS | true to size, perfect sleeve length | swing voluminous fit through the body | 48% wool/48% polyester/4% other fibers, dry clean
The Bottoms (4 Pieces)
I chose three different cuts for the jeans and pants to fit different preferences and one skirt for variety:
- Perfect vintage wide leg jeans from Madewell in pipestone wash: Petite 24 | 10.5″ rise | 28″ inseam | stretch denim | the jeans buckle on me with flats and have enough length for heels, I find this length the most versatile for my height | 81% cotton/6% recycled polyester/3% elastane | (more wide leg jeans here)
- Bella straight jeans from Quince in midnight blue: 24 x 26″ | 10.5″ rise | stretch denim | 94% organic cotton, 5% elasterell-p, 1% lycra
- Flare corduroy pants from J.Crew in pale bone: Petite 24 | not see through | low stretch, a little snug on my thighs but loosens with wear | 10.5″ rise | 29″ inseam I can only wear these with the heeled boots | 98% cotton/2% elastane
- Faux suede mini skirt in walnut: 0 | recommend a size up if you’re wide through the hips, otherwise true to size | fully lined | 100% polyester, machine washable
(Tip: if you’re looking for jeans in a different inseam or style, check out my denim guides by inseam – 24″ | 25″ | 26-27″ | 28-29″ )
The Shoes (4 Styles)
I chose the shoes I personally wear the most for the capsule, for what it’s worth, I find every single pair goes the best with the wide leg jeans, but I’ll note how I wear each one below:
- Gola Sneakers: true to size | in the capsule I mostly pair these with wide leg jeans (full review here)
- Sam Edelman ballet flats: true to size in french sand | these go with everything (full review here)
- Stevie ankle boots from J.Crew: true to size | comfortable at the toe and a low walkable heel | I would wear these with everything in the capsule (although I prefer the knee high boots with the skirt) | (similar less expensive boots)
- Sam Edelman knee high boots: true to size | I like to pair these with skirts and dresses, they also work with wide-leg jeans (full review here)
The Accessories (4 Pieces)
I kept the accessories simple:
- Suede bag
- Neck scarf
- Beige belt in mushroom
- Cognac belt in glazed pecan
