Finding jeans as a petite isn’t just about height. Two women can both be 4’10” and have completely different proportions. Some petites have longer legs with a shorter torso, while others have shorter legs and a longer torso. That’s why sharing both rise and inseam measurements is so important.
Personally, I can comfortably wear a 27.5″-28″ inseam in a full-length wide leg jean because of my proportions. That inseam is actually pretty typical for many petite brands, so I usually have good luck finding jeans I can wear without alterations. But over the years, I’ve heard from so many of you who need considerably shorter inseams, and I want to make sure I’m highlighting options that work for as many petites as possible.
Today’s post features three great options with inseams of 25″ and under. Two are cropped wide leg styles that can double as full-length jeans depending on your proportions. I’ll be showing both the petite and standard versions so you can see how the extra length changes the look. The third pair is a relaxed straight jean from American Eagle that’s available in an Extra Short inseam measuring 25″.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
J.Crew Slim Wide Jean
The J.Crew Slim Wide Jean is one of my favorite examples of how the same style can work for different petite proportions.
The cropped version measures a 10″ rise with a 25″ inseam in petite sizing. The standard version has an 11″ rise with a 27″ inseam, making it a great option if you’re looking for a full-length fit instead.
For reference, I’m wearing a size 24 in both the petite and standard versions. I found the petite pair noticeably tighter through my hips. I suspect that’s partly due to the slightly lower rise, so if you’re pear-shaped like I am, you may want to consider sizing up in the petite version.
These jeans are made from 99% cotton and 1% elastane, giving them that classic denim feel with just a touch of stretch.
Fit Notes for Petites
- Petite: 10″ rise, 25″ inseam
- Standard: 11″ rise, 27″ inseam
- Petite fit runs snug through the hips
- Consider sizing up in petite if you’re curvier through the hips and thighs
- 99% cotton, 1% elastane

J.Crew Factory Wide Leg Cropped Jeans
If you’re looking for a less expensive but similar option to the Slim Wide Jeans at J.Crew this Factory version is a great option.
The petite version measures a 10″ rise with a 24.5″ inseam, while the standard version keeps the same 10″ rise but extends the inseam to 26″. Both versions fit me true to size, so I didn’t notice the fit differences I experienced with the J.Crew pair.
Fabric content varies depending on the wash. The dark wash I’m wearing is made from 85% cotton, 14% polyester, and 1% elastane.
Fit Notes for Petites
- Petite: 10″ rise, 24.5″ inseam
- Standard: 10″ rise, 26″ inseam
- True to size
- Fabric content varies by wash
- Dark wash: 85% cotton, 14% polyester, 1% elastane

American Eagle Stovepipe Jeans
If wide leg jeans aren’t your style, the American Eagle Stovepipe Jean is an excellent straight-leg option.
I’m wearing the Short inseam, which measures 27″, but these are also available in an Extra Short with a 25″ inseam for petites who need an even shorter length.
American Eagle lists these as high-rise and notes a rise of 10″+ online. However, my size 00 Short measures a 9″ rise. If you’ve been searching for a lower rise these are worth a look.
The denim is 99% cotton and 1% elastane. They do relax with wear, so although they fit true to size initially, expect them to soften and loosen after a few hours.
Fit Notes for Petites
- Extra Short: 25″ inseam
- Short: 27″ inseam (shown)
- Measured rise on my pair: 9″
- Relaxed straight-leg fit
- True to size with some loosening throughout the day
- 99% cotton, 1% elastane

Final Thoughts
One thing I love about the cropped wide leg styles is how versatile they become depending on your proportions. On someone with a shorter inseam, they can easily function as full-length jeans that skim the top of the foot or fall nearly to the floor. That makes them easy to style with everything from ballet flats and sneakers to loafers, ankle boots, and low heels. Your best bet for finding cropped jeans is in the summer season, so stock up now to take you through fall and winter.
Hopefully this series helps more of you find jeans that fit right off the rack. Petite sizing isn’t one-size-fits-all, and the more we share real measurements and fit comparisons, the easier it becomes to find styles that work for your unique proportions.
