The holiday season comes with a full calendar — from office parties to festive outings, cozy days at home, and everything in between. If you’ve ever wondered what to wear for different holiday events, this post is here to help. I’m sharing five holiday outfit ideas for specific occasions: a comfortable look for travel days, a polished outfit for the office party, a dressy look for the ballet or a seasonal show, a cozy outfit for wrapping presents at home, and something cute (but practical) for holiday shopping. Each outfit is petite-friendly, easy to wear, and styled on my 4’10” frame to give you real-life fit notes you can trust. Whether you’re celebrating, traveling, or just checking your to-do list, these outfits will take you exactly where you need to go this season.

Where to Wear Holiday Outfits

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Holiday Shopping

Even though I do most of my holiday shopping online now, I still love going out this time of year — it feels nostalgic. The mall decorations, the festive music, the whole atmosphere always puts me in the holiday spirit. For a fun and festive outfit that’s still comfortable for walking around, I paired a Fair Isle holiday sweater from J.Crew with the Relaxed Straight Jeans from Quince.

The sweater isn’t petite, but it fits beautifully — the sleeves are perfect — and since it’s a wool blend, I like layering a turtleneck underneath for extra warmth. The jeans are true to size in a comfortable stretch denim. They come in inseam options, and I’m wearing the 28″ inseam here.

To top it off, I added the short Toscana coat from J.Crew in Petite 00. My local mall is outdoors, so a coat is a must, but this one is warm, lightweight, and easy to move around in — perfect for a holiday shopping day.

Church

Whether you’re attending a Christmas Eve service, a children’s play, or the festive Sunday before Christmas, this green lace dress from Boden is a beautiful option. It’s the one I’m planning to wear for our Sunday Christmas service. The dress is incredibly well made and feels substantial right out of the package. It’s fully lined with a full lace overlay, has a fabric belt, functional buttons at the chest, and even pockets.

I’m wearing it in Petite 0, and it does fit oversized on me through the chest with the waist sitting a bit low. I used the belt to pull the fabric up to my natural waist and cinch it in, and I used a small fabric tack gun to secure the extra length on the belt.

A Ballet

A ballet is the perfect excuse to get a little dressed up. A modest holiday dress always works beautifully, but a classic all-black outfit is just as timeless. For this look, I pulled pieces I already had in my closet. I’m wearing a pleated skirt from Aritzia that fits me well in XS with a comfortable stretch waist, paired with a one-shoulder top from BR Factory.

To stay warm, I layered on the Heirloom Coat from Aritzia — a gorgeous wrap coat with a great shape, though the sleeves run a touch long on me. I finished the outfit with Sheertex tights and slingback heels for a dressy but wearable ballet-night look.

Office Holiday Party

For a casual holiday office party I’m wearing the Velvet Kallie Pants from J.Crew Factory, a satin top, a crepe blazer, and statement ballet flats — the flats really make the outfit.

The pants are true to size overall, but if you’re between sizes, I recommend going up. The blazer is an old favorite from my closet; it’s a beautiful neutral and fits true to size in Petite 00, though the sleeves run a little long. The satin top is from BR Factory and fits me well in XXS.

Holiday Travel

When it comes to travel outfits, I usually stick to either jeans or leggings. For this look, I’m wearing the Booty Boost Leggings from Spanx in the 7/8 length, which fits as a perfect full length on me. I love these leggings for their medium compression, booty lift, and the fact that there’s no front seam — they hold you in without ever feeling uncomfortable. I wear them in XS, and they’re true to size.

I paired them with a tunic half-zip top from Spanx. In XS, it covers my backside with a slightly shorter front hem, making it great for travel days when you want coverage without bulk. Since I always wear my coat instead of packing it, I added a topcoat over the outfit and chose sneakers I’ll also wear on my trip. I’m heading back to Disney soon, so I went with my Hoka sneakers, but this outfit works just as well with Gola sneakers if you don’t need an athletic pair.

And as for the Beis luggage — is it worth it? Absolutely. I love mine. It has held up so well through multiple trips, even when checked, and the soft, cushioned handle is a dream. I’m using the carry-on size here, and I also have the Weekender Bag, which I fully stuff and slide under the seat on the plane.

Wrapping Gifts

For a cozy at-home outfit perfect for watching Christmas movies and wrapping presents, I went with a matching AirEssentials set from Spanx. I’ve raved about this set in several posts, and for good reason. Here I’m wearing the wide-leg pants and the turtleneck tunic top.

In Petite XS, the pants have a 28.5″ inseam, which is a touch long on me with flats. They do shrink slightly in the wash and fit better afterward. The turtleneck tunic is also great with leggings since it offers full backside coverage. I’m wearing both pieces here in French Gray.
