Linen pants are one of my go-to pieces for summer. They’re lightweight, breathable, and easy to style—but finding a pair that fits well as a petite can be a little tricky. In this post, I’m sharing four ways to style a pair that I recently tested and really loved, along with outfit ideas you can recreate with pieces you may already have in your closet.

4 Ways to Style Linen Pants for Petites (With Outfit Ideas)
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
The Linen Pants I’m Wearing
The linen pants from Madewell were a new-to-me option from my recent wash-and-wear test, and they ended up being a top pick. On first try, I really liked the overall fit—especially the thinner waistband, which doesn’t sit as high on my torso as some other styles.
I did find that they run small, so I sized up to XS Short. Out of the package, they measured a 28″ inseam with a 10″ rise. After washing, the inseam shrunk to about 27″, while the rise stayed the same. The fit felt slightly snug right out of the wash, but relaxed again with wear. With extended wear these pants continue to relax, so if you want a close fit I would go true to size.
They’re 100% linen and unlined, but not see-through with nude underwear. Like most linen, they do wrinkle—especially along the seams and at the creases of the legs—but that’s expected with this fabric.
Overall, I’ve been really happy with the fit, wear, and wash of this pair.
How to Style Linen Pants on a Petite Frame
Linen pants are voluminous, so the key is creating balance with a tucked in a top or a top that is cropped to the waist. I included a few outfit examples here with a tucked in a top and tops that are cropped or highlight the waist, for my friends who don’t love to tuck in their top.
Keep your footwear light. This is my rule with pretty much everything because shoes with thick straps or chunky platorms add weight and will shorten your legs. I went with simple strappy sandals in the outfits below.
Outfit 1: Linen Pants + Black Boatneck Top
This is a simple and polished combination. A fitted black boatneck top balances the relaxed fit of the linen pants and creates a clean, elevated look. The top I’m wearing here is from Nordstrom, it’s double-lined, and I’m wearing it in XXS.
Have you heard of outfit sandwiching? It’s when you take a color from the top of your outfit and repeat it at the bottom. It doesn’t have to be an exact match with your shoes—you can also tie it in with your bag or accessories. This creates a cohesive styled outfit.
For this outfit, black sandals felt like the obvious choice, but I don’t love wearing black shoes. They can create a harsh contrast and make you look shorter overall. Instead, I “sandwiched” the look by matching my shoes to my necklace—going gold with gold.

Outfit 2: Linen Pants + White Crochet Tank
If you want something a little lighter and more summery, a white crochet tank is a great option. The texture adds interest without needing a lot of extra styling.
The top I’m wearing here is from Old Navy. It’s 100% cotton and lightweight. It’s an open-knit and dips low at the chest on me, so I wear it layered over a camisole.

Outfit 3: Linen Pants + Cropped Red Top
This outfit adds a little more color and contrast. A cropped top pairs especially well with linen pants because it naturally balances the proportions on a petite frame.
The shorter length helps define your waist and keeps your legs looking longer. This top fits me well at the chest and arm openings. It’s open at the embroidery, but it’s well placed so you can wear a nude bra and not be revealing – or you can wear it over a camisole. I also styled this top in a recent mini capsule post.

Outfit 4: Shell Top + Linen Pants
The opening at the bottom of this top draws attention to the waist, which helps create the appearance of longer legs—without needing to tuck it in. This tank from J.Crew has a slim fit, and I’m wearing it in XXS. If you prefer a little more room, I recommend sizing up.
