I love finding petite-friendly pieces at a lower price point, especially when the proportions work without alterations. For today’s post, I rounded up five budget-friendly skirts and dresses from Kohl’s and Target that work well on my 4’10” frame.
The three dresses from Kohl’s are all offered in petite sizing, while the two skirts aren’t technically petite but still work for me lengthwise. There is also a nice mix here for transitioning into fall—from dresses you can wear now and later with knee-high boots to skirts you can pair with lightweight sweaters and heels.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
LC Lauren Conrad Balloon-Sleeve Empire Mini Dress
The first dress is a long sleeve options from Kohl’s. It’s fully lined at the top and bottom and the sleeves are sheer long sleeves. There is stretch at the waist, wrists and chest. I find this one to fit true to size, I’m wearing it in petite XS. I love the soft floral print, that will be perfect for transitioning into fall. I also love that this one looks great with heels, sandals and ballet flats now but will also look great with knee high boots come fall.

LC Lauren Conrad Midi Dress
The next dress is a midi length option, also in a fall floral print but with a navy base. This dress has decorative buttons down the front and a slit at the bottom, which makes it great for wearing with knee high boots later in the season. It’s also fully lined like the first dress with sheer stretch sleeves. Though the sleeves are more of a 3/4 length on this dress. I find it to fit true to size overall, but it has a very low neckline. I’ve pinned mine. I’m wearing it in petite XS.

Simply Vera Vera Wang Belted Drop-Waist Maxi Dress
This dark green dress from The Simply Vera brand at Kohl’s could work for a casual wedding guest option. It’s a beautiful fall color. It has a full, adjustable camisole lining. The sheer overlay is beautiful and lightweight. The dress fits me well at the arm openings and has a generous fit without the tie belt, but looks great once it’s tied. I would say it’s true to size; I’m wearing Petite XS. I definitely will be cutting the fabric tag you can see at the bottom of the skirt.

SO Tiered Midi Skirt
This tiered skirt was a juniors department find. I’m wearing it in XS, but since it’s juniors sizing, it runs a little smaller than women’s sizing and I could have gone with a size small. It’s unlined, but not sheer, although it never hurts to add a slip for extra coverage. It has a comfortable stretch waist with a functional drawstring. No pockets on this one, but it does come in several nice fall prints.

Universal Thread Lace Maxi Pull-On Skirt
The last outfit is a full Target find. The skirt is fully lined and 100% cotton. In XS, this skirt is a maxi length for me. I can technically wear it with flat sandals, but I styled it here with a pair of low heels. I paired it with a top I also found at Target that fits me well in XS.
