Different Denim Jacket Styles on a Petite Frame

A denim jacket is one of those staples I always keep in my closet. I love a classic style, but over the years, so many updated silhouettes have become popular — and this season is no exception. There’s no shortage of fresh denim jacket styles to try.

In this post, I’m sharing three different denim jacket styles on my petite frame: an oversized denim shirt, a cropped bomber-inspired jacket, and a chore jacket. I’ll break down how each fit works on a shorter frame and how to style them for everyday outfits.

Different Denim Jacket Styles on a Petite Frame

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Oversized Denim Shirt

I found this denim shirt at Walmart from their Free Assembly line, and it feels much more elevated than the price suggests. The fabric is substantial — almost more jacket-weight than shirt-weight — which makes it perfect as a lightweight layering piece.

Although it appears more fitted on the model, it has an oversized fit on me, which I love for styling over simple basics. I’m wearing it in XS and would only recommend sizing down if you prefer a more tailored fit.

Here, I styled it with wide-leg linen pants and an all-white base for a clean, easy outfit that lets the denim stand out.

Cropped Field Jacket

I found this cropped field jacket at Madewell and love how chic and modern it feels. The fit is intentionally oversized, with a structured funnel collar and an adjustable drawstring hem.

You can cinch the drawstring to give it more of a bomber-style shape, or loosen it for a relaxed swing fit. On my petite frame, the sleeves run slightly long and cover part of my hands, so I prefer to cuff them or push them back for a more balanced look. For size reference, I’m wearing it in XXS. If you’re looking for a look for less, this one from Old Navy is similar and comes in petite.

Cropped Chore Jacket

This chore jacket is from Old Navy, and I love the updated silhouette, cropped fit, and light-wash denim. I’m wearing it in Petite XS and find it fits true to size, with sleeves that are well proportioned for a shorter frame.

When styling any denim jacket, I usually lean into contrast — pairing it with white, black, or colored bottoms rather than more denim. That said, I’ll always love a denim jacket layered over a dress, too.

In this outfit, I styled it with a pair of pants that remind me of Aritzia’s Lodge Pants at a fraction of the price. They’re true to size and, in petite, have a 27″ inseam. They wash well, resist wrinkling, and are an easy, comfortable option for casual outfits.
