Wide leg trousers continue to be on trend this season. I love the way they look with a heel, but sometimes comfort is priority. In this post I’m styling a pair of wide leg trousers with three flat shoes styles: ballet flats, loafers, and slim sneakers.

The Gap 365 Trousers that I’m wearing in this post are true to size, and the petite inseam is 28″, which does bunch just a little bit when I wear them with flats. I know, as someone who is petite, you’ve probably been avoiding bunching your entire life, but that slight bunch is an on-trend option that you can embrace this season if you want to.

Three Flat Shoe Styles to Wear with Wide Leg Trousers

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Ballet Flats with Wide Leg Trousers

Ballet flats are by far the easiest shoe to wear with wide leg trousers because they’re slim and lightweight. They slide right under the hem of the pants without adding any bulk. I love a nude style because it blends in and lengthens the leg line, but any color will work. You can go for a classic round toe or opt for a pointed toe if you want to make your legs look a little longer.

Loafers with Wide Leg Trousers

Loafers are another great option and instantly make an outfit feel polished. To keep the leg looking visually long, I recommend choosing a slim, sleek style with a slightly elongated toe. I’d avoid loafers with heavy stitching, embellishments, or chunky soles since those can make the look feel bulky against wide leg pants. A classic leather loafer in a light neutral shade is a simple go-to that works for both work and casual days.

Slim Sneakers with Wide Leg Trousers

For a casual everyday outfit, sneakers are the perfect match with wide-leg trousers—but the key is choosing a slim profile style. I’m wearing the Gola Elan sneakers, and they’re a great fit (true to size, I wear a size 5). You can go with any color, but I prefer light shades since they feel lighter on your feet and visually lengthen your legs. Paired with the flowy wide leg shape, slim sneakers give off a cool, laid-back vibe that still feels put-together.

Wearing flats with wide leg trousers might feel a little tricky at first, but it actually works really well—especially with the petite-friendly Gap 365 Trousers. The slight bunch at the hem gives that laid-back, on-trend vibe, and shoes like ballet flats, loafers, or slim sneakers keep the look simple and comfortable. Whether you’re going for something polished or just casual everyday style, these are the flats I reach for most with wide leg pants.
