One request I’ve been hearing more and more is for petite-friendly work pants made with natural fibers. If you’ve started looking, you’ve probably realized they’re surprisingly hard to find. Most work trousers today are made primarily from polyester blends, especially in petite sizing.

After doing some searching, I found several promising options from Banana Republic. They offer a handful of petite trousers in lightweight wool, along with linen and cotton styles that are worth checking out if you’re building a work wardrobe for warmer weather.

Today I’m sharing four neutral summer work outfits for petites featuring three pairs of Banana Republic wool trousers and one easy work dress (dress is a bonus and is not natural fibers). While wool may not be the first fabric you think of for summer, these trousers are made from lightweight wool that drapes beautifully and stays surprisingly comfortable in warm weather. Just keep in mind that they are dry clean only, and if you have very sensitive skin, you may find the fabric a little itchy.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Outfit 1: Wide-Leg Wool Trousers + Cropped Cardigan

For the first outfit, I’m wearing Banana Republic’s Everyday Wide-Leg Pant in Italian Lightweight Wool paired with a cropped cardigan from Banana Republic Factory and an Italian Wool Blazer also from Banana Republic.

These trousers are true to size, and I’m wearing Petite XXS. They have an 8.25-inch rise and a 28.5-inch inseam, which works for me with a low heel. The proportions feel balanced without being overly wide and many of my petite friends will appreciate the lower rise.

The fabric is 98% Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) wool with 2% elastane for a little flexibility. The wool is lightweight enough for summer, though it can feel slightly itchy if you’re particularly sensitive to wool.

The cropped cardigan balances the wide-leg silhouette nicely, while the blazer adds structure.

Outfit 2: Camel Straight-Leg Wool Trousers + Navy Vest

For the second outfit, I styled Banana Republic’s Ultra High-Rise Modern Straight Italian Lightweight Wool Pant in Camel with Aritzia’s Regal Vest in navy.

These trousers are true to size with a 28.5-inch inseam and an ultra-high 12-inch rise in petite sizing. If you prefer mid-rise pants, these may feel higher than you’re used to, but they have a beautiful drape that creates a polished silhouette.

Like the first pair, they’re made from 98% Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) wool with 2% elastane and require dry cleaning.

The Aritzia vest runs small, so I recommend sizing up. Once I did, I found the proportions to be excellent for petites, with arm openings that fit well without gaping.

Outfit 3: Slim Ankle Wool Trousers + Ribbed Cardigan

For the third outfit, I paired Banana Republic’s Ultra High-Rise Modern Slim Italian Lightweight Wool Ankle Pant with a ribbed cardigan from LOFT.

I sized up to Petite 0 because I often do in slimmer styles, but after wearing them, I think my usual Petite 00 would have been the better fit. I’d recommend ordering your true size.

These trousers have a 25-inch ankle-length inseam with an 11.5-inch rise in petite sizing. They’re made from the same lightweight wool blend as the other two pairs and also require dry cleaning.

The LOFT cardigan is true to size, and I’m wearing Petite XXS. I love the color, but it is fairly sheer, so I layered a darker camisole underneath to keep it from showing through.

Outfit 4: Crepe Dress + Stretch Blazer

For the final outfit, I styled a crepe dress from Kohl’s with the same Banana Republic Blazer from the first outfit.

The dress fits me well in XS and is fully lined, making it an easy piece to wear throughout the workweek. It looks equally polished with flats or low heels, and the blazer adds just enough structure for a professional office setting.

Final Thoughts

Finding petite workwear made with natural fibers isn’t easy, but Banana Republic offers several options that are worth considering if you’re looking beyond the usual polyester blends. Their lightweight wool trousers drape beautifully and create the polished look many of us want for the office while remaining comfortable in warmer weather.

When it comes to natural fiber workwear, I think every fabric involves a trade-off. Cotton and linen are breathable but tend to wrinkle and relax with wear. Wool is often more expensive and typically requires dry cleaning, but it holds its shape well and offers a more tailored, polished appearance throughout the day. Wool can also irritate sensitive skin if it’s not lined.
