Wide-leg jeans are still one of my favorite denim styles, and today I’m rounding up five petite-friendly options with a range of inseams. I previously shared a few wide-leg jeans that worked best for me with heels, but this roundup includes shorter options ranging from a 25″ inseam up to 28″.

I’m 4’10”, and I can typically wear a 27–28″ inseam for a full-length fit, but I know many petites prefer or need something closer to 25–26″. In this post, I’m sharing options across that range, along with the rise, sizing, fabric, and my personal fit notes for each pair.

5 Wide-Leg Jeans for Petites: Inseams from 25 to 28 Inches

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

J.Crew Factory Classic Wide-Leg Jeans

The Classic Wide-Leg Jeans from J.Crew Factory are a newer style for me, but they’ve quickly become a favorite. They didn’t make the top-five jeans list I shared last month simply because I hadn’t tried them yet, but I liked the fit so much that I included them in my recent capsule wardrobe.

I’m wearing Petite 24, and they’re true to size for me. The 10″ rise is a comfortable high rise on my frame, and the 28″ inseam gives them a full-length fit. I especially like the shape of the leg—it gives you the wide-leg look without feeling overwhelming on a petite frame.

The Dark Tinted Wash I’m wearing is 85% cotton, 14% polyester, and 1% elastane, although the fabric content varies by wash. They have a comfortable amount of stretch and hold their shape well throughout the day.

Madewell Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Jeans

The Madewell Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Jeans are one of my all-time favorite pairs of jeans. I’ve worn this style for quite some time and continue to come back to them because they’re comfortable and hold their shape well with wear.

I’m wearing Petite 24 in the Midnight Stone wash. This wash is made from 67% cotton, 21% lyocell, 11% polyester, and 1% elastane, but the fabric content varies between washes. This wash is very similar to the Pipestone Wash I wore and recommended heavily last year in fit and color.

The 28″ inseam is just a little long on me when they’re brand new. However, I’ve put mine in the dryer a few times, and they’ve shrunk to closer to a 27″ inseam, which is a great full-length fit for me. If you need the full 28″ length, I recommend hanging them to dry rather than putting them in the dryer.

Madewell Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Crop Jeans

This pair is a great option if you’re petite and prefer a shorter inseam. Although they’re technically a cropped jean, the petite version has a 25″ inseam, which can work as a full-length wide-leg jean if you need a shorter length.

I have a more average full-length inseam for a petite at around 27–28″, so I’m wearing the Classic 24 here for a full-length fit. The classic sizing has a 27″ inseam, while petite drops down to 25″.

I know from talking with many of you that finding jeans with a 25–26″ inseam can be particularly difficult, so I love having this option in the roundup.

I’m wearing the Vintage Canvas color, which is an ecru shade made from 98% cotton and 2% elastane. The denim isn’t sheer, has a comfortable amount of stretch, and holds its shape well. I included these in the capsule.

One thing to note is the raw hem. It will continue to unravel somewhat with washing, so I recommend hanging these jeans to dry. If you love this color and general fit but prefer a clean finished hem, I recommend trying the J.Crew Ankle Wide-Leg Jeans instead. I find those to run small, so I recommend going up a size.

Quince Bella Wide-Leg Jeans

At around $50, the Quince Bella Wide-Leg Jeans are a great value and rival some of the jeans in my closet that cost $100 or more. They are always what I recommend if someone asks me for a less expensive option to my frequently shared Madewell or J.Crew jeans.

The rise varies slightly by size and averages around 10.5″. In my size 24, the rise is approximately 10″. I’m wearing the Short length, which has a 28″ inseam.

These jeans are made with organic cotton and have a stretchy, medium-weight feel. They’re comfortable and well proportioned, while still holding their shape well with wear.

For fit, they’re a little snug across my hips in my true size, but I still prefer the 24. I tried sizing up, and it changed the overall fit more than I expected. They felt wider and longer throughout rather than simply giving me a little more room through the hips, so I stick with my true size. The inseam measurement didn’t change, but I think the looser fit and lower drop on my frame with a looser fit changed how they looked.

Quince Bella Relaxed Straight Jeans

Despite the “Relaxed Straight” name, I’m including the Quince Bella Relaxed Straight Jeans because they have a wide, relaxed shape that gives a similar look to a wide-leg jean on a petite frame. They’re often what I recommend if a reader is feeling overwhelmed in a wide style.

These were my most-worn jeans last season and are still a pair I recommend often. I’m wearing the Short length with a 28″ inseam, but what makes this pair particularly useful for petites is that they’re also offered in an Extra Short length with a 26″ inseam.

Like the Bella Wide-Leg Jeans, the rise averages around 10.5″ and varies by size. My size 24 has approximately a 10″ rise.

These are thicker than the Bella Wide-Leg Jeans and are made with organic cotton. They’re also around $50, making them another well-priced option.

The fit is true to size for me. They’re slightly snug through my hips in a 24, but when I tried the next size up, they felt too big overall. I prefer sticking with my true size and letting the denim relax a little with wear.

How I Wash My Jeans

The best way to care for denim if you want to preserve both the wash and the original fit is to wash your jeans in cold water and hang them to dry. Once they’re completely dry, you can tumble them briefly in the dryer if you want to soften them.

Admittedly, I put my jeans in the dryer on low heat pretty often. Over time, I’ve found that almost every pair shrinks to some extent.

For me, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Since many petite jeans have a 28″ inseam that’s just a touch long on my 4’10” frame, a little shrinkage can actually bring them closer to my ideal length. My Madewell Perfect Vintage Wide-Leg Jeans are a good example—they started around 28″ and are now closer to 27″ after being dried several times. In this post, the Bella Wide Jeans are brand new, while the others are shown washed and dried, so you can tell they’re a little bit shorter.

However, if a pair of jeans is already the perfect length for you, or you don’t want to risk losing any length, I recommend sticking with cold water and hanging them to dry.

Final Fit Notes

All five of these jeans offer slightly different fits and lengths, which is exactly why I wanted to include them in one roundup. They’re also my overall top recommendations for a petite looking for a wide leg style. If you need a shorter inseam, cropped styles can sometimes work as full-length jeans, and it’s also worth looking for brands that offer extra-short sizing, like the Quince Bella Relaxed and some styles at American Eagle. If you’re closer to my proportions and can comfortably wear a 27–28″ inseam, you’ll have even more options. Along with inseam, I always recommend looking at the rise, leg width, and fabric content when comparing jeans since all of those details can affect the overall fit.
