I hunt for dresses for petites that don’t need alterations, like it’s a sport. Sure, having the option to tailor is great, but it is an added expense and extra time spent. If I can help you avoid it, I will.
Today I’m sharing four petite-friendly summer dresses that range from midi to maxi lengths and fit my 4’10” frame beautifully without any alterations. Whether you’re looking for an everyday summer dress, a vacation outfit, or something a little more special, these are all styles I’ve personally tested and loved.
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

This may be my favorite dress of the group.
The By Anthropologie Twofer Tiered Sleeveless Dress is fully lined with a beautiful lace overlay and adjustable spaghetti straps. Layered over top is a cropped vest that creates a polished, styled look without any extra effort.
I’m wearing Petite XXS, and the fit is true to size. The proportions are spot on for petites, and I especially appreciate the versatility of the cropped vest. It can easily be worn separately with other dresses, skirts, or even high-waisted pants.

Marine Layer Darcy Poplin Maxi Dress
Marine Layer continues to impress me, and the Darcy Poplin Maxi Dress is another winner.
This version is made from a soft blend of 70% Tencel and 30% linen, creating a lightweight, breathable fabric that feels perfect for hot summer days. I’m wearing the dress in XS, and on my 4’10” frame it reaches the floor when worn with flat sandals.
I also own this dress in the seersucker version and love it just as much. One thing worth noting is that both fabrics shrank slightly after washing. In this situation, it actually improved the length for my petite frame.

Caslon Mixed Media Midi Dress
I originally purchased this dress in red and loved it so much that I had to add another color.
The Caslon Mixed Media Midi Dress combines a stretchy cotton knit top with a woven cotton skirt, creating a comfortable dress that still looks polished. The top is made from 95% cotton and 5% spandex, while the skirt is 100% cotton and fully lined.
I’m wearing XXS, and the fit is excellent. The white version feels especially versatile and serves as the perfect blank canvas for statement jewelry, colorful cardigans, or seasonal accessories.
It’s one of those easy dresses that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Quince 100% European Linen Fit & Flare Midi Dress
One of the things I’m most excited about lately is Quince’s expansion into petite sizing.
I fell in love with this linen dress when I tried it in standard sizing last year, but the petite version is even better. In the standard fit, I had to cross the straps in the back to shorten them enough for my frame. With the petite version, the straps fit properly as designed.
The dress features adjustable straps with three button positions, making it even easier to customize the fit. It’s made from 100% European linen with a fully lined full skirt that feels elevated while still being comfortable for everyday wear.
