If you’re looking for fresh ideas for getting dressed for work this summer, these five outfits are a great place to start. I’ve focused on soft neutral colors, lightweight layers, and petite-friendly proportions that work well in office environments. Whether your workplace leans business casual or more traditional, these outfits offer a mix of skirts and pants along with layering pieces that help bridge the gap between warm temperatures outside and air-conditioned offices indoors.

Today I’m sharing five neutral summer work outfits that work well on my 4’10” petite frame. For size reference, I’m 4’10” with measurements of 32-24-36 and typically wear Petite 00 or XXS.

5 Soft Neutral Summer Work Outfits for Petites

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Outfit 1: White Trousers and a Soft Rose Cashmere Tee

This first outfit combines tailored trousers with soft knit layers for an easy summer office look.

I’m wearing Ann Taylor’s Perfect Wide Leg Pants in Petite 00. They fit true to size and feature a 10″ rise with a 28.5″ inseam. On my height, they’re best worn with a heel. The fabric isn’t see-through, but you can see the outline of the white pocket bags through the front. I always mention this because it’s something that bothers some of my readers, even though it doesn’t personally bother me.

For layering, I added a blazer from White House Black Market. This blazer is one of the best petite fits I’ve found recently. I’m wearing Petite 00, and it strikes a great balance between structure and comfort thanks to its stretchy fabric.

Underneath, I’m wearing Quince’s Vintage Pink Cashmere Tee in XS. This sweater has become a year-round favorite because it offers the comfort of a t-shirt with a more polished appearance that’s perfect for work.

Fit Notes

  • Ann Taylor Pants: Petite 00, true to size
  • 10″ rise, 28.5″ inseam
  • WHBM blazer: Petite 00, excellent petite fit
  • Quince Cashmere Tee: XS

Outfit 2: Neutral Polka Dot Skirt and Satin Top

This outfit feels soft and feminine while still being professional.

The pleated skirt features a subtle neutral polka dot print and, despite not being offered in petite sizing, fits me well in my usual size 00. The movement of the pleats gives the outfit a light, summery feel without sacrificing polish.

I paired it with a green satin top from White House Black Market. The petal sleeves are one of my favorite details because they look beautiful on their own when you remove your blazer. The top does run large, however. I’m wearing XXS and still find it slightly roomy.

To finish the look, I added a cropped stretch blazer from White House Black Market. The shorter length works especially well with skirts and dresses, and the sleeve length is ideal for petites.

Fit Notes

  • WHBM satin top: XXS, runs large
  • WHBM cropped blazer: true to size, excellent petite proportions

Outfit 3: Cropped Wide-Leg Pants and a Crepe Vest

For a modern take on summer workwear, I paired cropped wide-leg trousers with a simple crepe vest.

The White House Black Market cropped wide-leg pants feature a 10″ rise and a 23″ inseam in petite sizing. The length is perfect for petites and works well with both flats and heels. I found them true to size overall, though they are slightly snug through my hips. If you don’t like the cropped length, in standard these have a 25″ inseam which would still work for my proportions.

The vest was a surprising find from Kohl’s junior’s department. I’m wearing an XS and was pleasantly surprised by how well it fits. The clean lines make it feel much more expensive than its price point and create a polished look for the office.

Fit Notes

  • WHBM cropped wide-leg pants: true to size
  • 10″ rise, 23″ inseam
  • Kohl’s crepe vest: XS

Outfit 4: Printed Handkerchief Hem Skirt and Cashmere Tee

The handkerchief hem skirt from White House Black Market is a beautiful option if you’re looking for a skirt that feels interesting without being overly bold. The print blends shades of brown, black, and gold, making it easy to pair with a variety of neutral tops.

I’m wearing Petite 00, and the fit is true to size. The skirt is unlined but not sheer, which keeps it lightweight and comfortable during the summer months.

The soft rose cashmere tee adds a subtle touch of color while maintaining the neutral palette.

Outfit 5: Navy Cropped Pants and a Satin Blouse

For the final outfit, I paired navy cropped trousers with the same satin top from outfit two.

The pants are Ann Taylor’s Grace Straight Pants in the Curvy fit. I appreciate the additional room through the hips and thighs while still maintaining a tailored appearance through the waist. They’re true to size and fit my proportions well without pulling across the hips.

For reference, the Petite 00 Curvy features a 10.5″ rise and a 25″ inseam. My measurements are 24″ waist and 36″ hips, and this fit works beautifully for my shape.

The satin blouse adds softness and polish, making this an easy outfit for meetings, presentations, or days when you want to look a little more dressed up.

Final Thoughts

One of the easiest ways to build a summer work wardrobe is by focusing on versatile neutral pieces that can be mixed and matched throughout the season. Lightweight blazers, soft knits, tailored trousers, and easy skirts create endless outfit combinations while still feeling comfortable during warmer weather.

These five outfits offer a mix of pants and skirts along with layering options that work well for air-conditioned offices and varying dress codes. Whether your workplace is more traditional or business casual, these pieces provide a polished foundation while remaining comfortable on a petite frame, without any alterations.
