Above-the-knee dresses are a great silhouette for petites because they help create balanced proportions on a shorter frame. Today I’m reviewing five styles that fit well on my 4’10” frame. From polished shirt dresses for work to easy cotton styles you can wear all summer, each one offers something a little different while keeping proportions in mind.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

1. LOFT Black and White Polka Dot Dress

This black and white polka dot dress from LOFT is one of those easy dresses you can dress up for work or wear more casually with flats.

I’m wearing Petite XXS, and I found it true to size. The fit is well proportioned throughout, especially at the arm openings, which can sometimes be oversized on petites.

The dress is fully lined and features functional buttons all the way down the front. I also like the tie at the back, which helps define the waist without feeling restrictive.

2. J.Crew White Cotton Dress

If you’re looking for a classic white summer dress, this one from J.Crew is a beautiful option.

It’s made from 100% cotton and is fully lined, making it lightweight while still offering good coverage.

I’m wearing XXS, but this one fits a little snug on me. If you’re between sizes or prefer a little more room, I’d recommend sizing up.

3. Hyacinth House Cobalt Blue Eyelet Dress

This cobalt blue dress from Hyacinth House at Tuckernuck is such a fun statement piece.

I’m wearing XXS, and it fits me well. The dress is fully lined with a beautiful eyelet overlay that adds texture without making it feel heavy. The vibrant cobalt blue color is what first caught my eye, and it’s just as pretty in person.

The neckline features beaded tie closures. I prefer wearing mine tied because otherwise the neckline is lower than I personally like.

4. Anthropologie Soft Blue Eyelet Dress

This soft blue eyelet dress from Anthropologie has an easy, relaxed shape that’s perfect for warm weather.

It’s made from 100% cotton and is fully lined, making it comfortable for hot summer days. The silhouette is intentionally voluminous through the body, but it still fits me well in XXS without looking overwhelming.

Although it comes in petite sizing, I actually prefer the standard length. On my frame it still hits above the knee, and I like the overall proportions a little better.

5. LOFT Smocked Printed Dress

If you’re already thinking ahead to the transition into fall, this smocked dress from LOFT is a great option.

It’s made from 100% cotton, fully lined, and features a pretty print that feels perfect for late summer and early fall.

Right now, I’d style it with sandals, ballet flats or loafers. You could also add a lightweight cardigan for work. Later in the season, it will pair beautifully with knee-high boots and a cardigan or jacket, making it a versatile piece that can easily transition into cooler weather.
