Many petites have a shorter torso and prefer the fit of mid rise pants. While I personally find a 10–10.5″ rise to be the most comfortable and flattering on my frame, I know that isn’t the case for everyone. My goal is always to share options for a range of petite proportions and preferences.

So, if you prefer a rise around 9–9.5″, today’s post is for you. I’m sharing three mid rise pants for petites, all with a 9-9.5″ rise in petite sizing. I’ve included three different leg shapes—a slim straight, cropped flare, and wide leg—so you can find an option that works with your personal style.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Ann Taylor Eva Pants

The Eva Pants from Ann Taylor are a classic slim straight style and a great option if you’re looking for mid rise work pants. They have a clean, tailored look that works well with everything from blouses and blazers to simple sweaters.

In petite sizing, the Eva Pants have a 9″ rise and 25″ inseam. They’re made from a machine-washable cotton and spandex blend.

I find this style to run slim across the hips and thighs, so I prefer the curvy fit for my pear-shaped frame. They’re true to size, and the curvy fit gives me the extra room I need through the hips without being too large at the waist.

Gap 365 Low Rise Trousers

Although the Gap 365 Trousers are labeled as low rise, I would consider their 9.5″ rise to be closer to a mid rise on a petite frame. If you’ve been searching for petite wide leg pants that don’t have a high rise, these are a great option.

In petite sizing, they have a 9.5″ rise and 28″ inseam. The wide leg is relaxed and full, and at 28″, I find the inseam works best for me with heels.

These pants run a little large overall, so I recommend sizing down for the best fit. I’m wearing them in Petite 00.

J.Crew Kaya Pants

The Kaya Pants from J.Crew are a great option if you often struggle with petite pants being too loose or wide on your frame. They have a slim fit through the hips and thighs with a subtle cropped flare at the hem.

In petite sizing, the Kaya Pants have a 9.5″ rise and 25.5″ inseam. The fabric has comfortable stretch, and the slim cropped flare gives them a polished shape that works especially well for the office.

These pants run quite slim through the hips and thighs. I sized up one size, but I honestly could probably go up another size for a little more room through my hips. If you’re curvy through the hips and thighs like me, I would recommend sizing up.

If you have a straighter or slimmer build and often find work pants to be too roomy, the narrow cut of the Kaya Pants may be just what you’re looking for.

If you have a short torso or simply don’t love the feeling of high rise pants, looking for a rise around 9–9.5″ can be a good place to start. Rise will fit everyone a little differently depending on your proportions, but hopefully these three give you some options to try.
