Finding petite-friendly pieces that are also affordable isn’t always easy. The bigger challenge is finding options that are not only short enough, but also small enough—especially if you typically wear XXS, 00, or 24 like I do. Many budget brands come close on length but miss the mark on overall fit, which is why you don’t see them featured here as often.

That said, I’m always testing and trying to find options that work across different price points. When I do find something more budget-friendly that fits well, I’m excited to share it. In today’s post, I’m highlighting three dresses that worked for my height and size, along with the highs and lows of each one.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Mini Shirt Dress

First is a linen blend dress with a surprisingly good fit. This shirt-dress style works well for casual wear but could also be appropriate for some work settings. Just keep in mind—it is a linen blend, so it will wrinkle with wear. I’m wearing it in XS and find it fits well overall. It dips slightly at the arm openings, and is unlined, so the buttons will open slightly when you sit. For those reasons, I’ll be wearing this dress over a camisole slip (similar option linked here).

Button-Front Mini Sundress

I initially thought this dress would be a miss—it felt too long for my frame. But thanks to the adjustable neckline, I was able to shorten it to better fit my proportions, which made a big difference.

This is a good reminder about strap adjustments. If a dress has adjustable straps, don’t be afraid to shorten them more than you think. Wearing straps too long can throw off the proportions and overall length, especially on a petite frame.

I’m wearing this dress in XS and it fits well overall. It’s not skin-tight and has a bit of room at the waist while still maintaining shape. It’s unlined and lightweight, but not sheer.

I placed a large order at Target and only ended up with two dresses that really worked—but honestly, it was worth it to find those winners. That’s often how it goes with budget-friendly shopping, especially as a petite. It can take a little trial and error, but when something fits well at a lower price point, it’s a great find.

My hope is that this helps narrow things down for you and saves you a bit of that guesswork. If you’re shopping for petite-friendly dresses at Target, these are two options that are worth trying.
