A black sweater blazer is one of those pieces that instantly pulls an outfit together, and this one from Quince has quickly become a favorite in my closet. Made from organic cotton, it feels soft, holds its shape, and washes well without pilling. I went with my true size XS, which gives me an oversized fit—just the right amount of drape. The sleeves are designed to be 3/4 length, but on me they hit right at the wrists, which works perfectly.

This sweater blazer is versatile enough to wear to work, on weekends, or layered into fall outfits. Below, I’m sharing four ways to wear it, all styled with petite-friendly pieces I reach for often. I created this post at the request of a reader. Unfortunately, this sweater is currently out of stock in black. I recommend camel in place of black in these outfits.

4 Petite-Friendly Ways to Wear a Black Sweater Blazer

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Outfit 1: With Cream Wide-Leg Trousers

The cream trousers from the LOFT Versa Collection are a great wardrobe staple pair for petites. They have a 27.5″ inseam in petite, a flat front waistband with elastic in the back, and a generous, wide-leg cut that’s not see-through—even in cream. They’re machine washable and wrinkle-resistant, making them a great office staple.

I paired them with a cotton cashmere tank top from Quince, a chunky black belt, and black slingback heels. The black and cream combo feels classic, and the sweater blazer ties everything together for a polished, work-ready look. To keep the sleeves pushed back, I push them back to my elbows and then cuff them at the end.

Outfit 2: With a Pleated Twirl Skirt

For something more feminine, I styled the blazer with a pleated twirl skirt from Aritzia. This skirt runs small—I went with an XS (though it starts at XXS). The waistband is stretchy, it’s fully lined, and the chiffon overlay gives it great movement.

I kept the same Quince cotton cashmere tank top and slingback heels for a transitional outfit. For colder weather, you could swap the tank for a black turtleneck sweater and pair it with slim black knee-high boots. The flowy skirt balances the structure of the sweater blazer perfectly.

Outfit 3: With a Black Mini Skirt

The black mini skirt from & Other Stories is a wardrobe staple I pull out every fall and winter. It runs small, so I sized up to a 2. I like styling it with sheer black tights once the weather cools.

For this outfit, I added a tan cashmere sweater, leopard ballet flats, and a small crossbody bag to cinch the waist. The black sweater blazer layers easily over the look and makes the mini skirt feel more work-appropriate.

Outfit 4: With Bootcut Jeans and a White Button-Down

For a casual workday or a polished weekend look, I styled the blazer with a crisp white button-down tailored for petites and bootcut jeans from J.Crew. The jeans are stretch denim with a 10.25″ rise and a 30″ inseam in petite. This length works well with heeled boots, but I’ve noticed they shrink a little in the wash, so keep that in mind.

To warm up the outfit, I added a suede belt and brown boots, which contrast nicely with the black blazer. The combination feels sharp but easy to wear, especially for fall.
