Ballet flats are one of my favorite shoes for fall. The slim profile balances a petite frame, and they’re so versatile—you can wear them with everything from skirts and dresses to jeans and trousers. This season, I’ve been reaching for a few pairs on repeat, and I’m rounding up my top four picks for petites below, along with how I’m styling them.

Top 4 Ballet Flats for Fall
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
1. Sam Edelman Alie Flats (Classic Nude)
If you can only buy one pair of ballet flats, go with the Sam Edelman Alie Flats. They’re nude, which means they go with everything in your closet. But if nude isn’t your favorite, they also come in other color options. The shoes run true to size and have a classic round toe with a bow—simple and timeless.
I’ll be honest, they did take a little breaking in. At first they rubbed my heels, but the leather softened quickly with wear and now they’re one of my most comfortable pairs.

How I’m Wearing Them: I love these nude flats with jeans, wide-leg trousers, or even dresses. Because they’re neutral, they make any outfit feel lighter and more streamlined. I have also purchased them in chocolate brown, but I haven’t yet styled them.

2. Greta Ballet Flats from Madewell (Mary Jane Style)
The Greta Ballet Flats from Madewell are a mary jane style that feels classic but still makes a subtle statement. They’re made of soft suede, true to size, and comfortable right out of the box—no breaking in required. The lightly cushioned footbed adds just enough support for all-day wear.
I also love that they start at a size 5 and come in multiple colors, including plain versions if you don’t want embellishments.

How I’m Wearing Them: These flats are perfect with dresses, skirts, jeans and pants. I’ve mostly been wearing them with jeans so far, but they pair beautifully with all styles.

3. Dolce Vita Reyes Ballet Flats (Leopard Print)
The Dolce Vita Reyes Ballet Flats are one of my favorite statement pairs this season. The thin mary jane strap is petite-friendly—much easier to wear than chunky straps, which can make shorter legs look cut off.
I especially love the leopard print, but they also come in several neutral colors. The squared-off modern toe gives them a fresh look, and the padded ankle and footbed make them super comfortable with no break-in period.

How I’m Wearing Them: I like these flats with just about anything. I’ll wear them with all styles of denim, wide leg trousers, dresses, and skirts. The leopard adds a pop to otherwise neutral outfits.

4. Dolce Vita Baylee Flats (Double Strap)
The Dolce Vita Baylee Flats are trendy and fun. They’re made of perforated leather, run true to size, and come in a warm brown shade I really love. The double strap makes them a little trickier to style with everything in my closet, but when they work, they really shine.
I find they look best with full-length trousers and dresses that hit above the knee. They can be worn with ankle jeans or barrel-leg pants too, but it takes some balance so the straps don’t overwhelm the outfit.

How I’m Wearing Them: My favorite way is with full-length jeans and or dresses that are above the knee, but I’ve also included an option with barrel jeans.

Ballet flats are back in a big way, and I couldn’t be happier. They’re comfortable, timeless, and one of the most petite-friendly shoes you can add to your closet. These four—Sam Edelman Alie, Madewell Greta, Dolce Vita Reyes, and Dolce Vita Baylee—are the pairs I’ll be wearing all season long.
